Anthony Dewberry Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Anthony Dewberry, to Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center, effective March 16, 2018. As the Superintendent, Dewberry will be responsible for overseeing 60 staff members and 250 minimum security male offenders. 

“Dewberry has shown great leadership skills in each positoin he has held,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.  “We look forward to his continued leadership and guidance in his new role at McEver.”

Dewberry began his career with the Department in 1991 as a Correctional Officer at Metro State Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1994, and Lieutenant in 1997.  He was promoted to Chief of Security at Northwest Probation Detention Center in 2001, and in 2006 he was promoted to Unit Manager at Lee Arrendale State Prison. In 2014, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Hays State Prison and was reassigned to Lee Arrendale State Prison in 2016, where he currently serves.

Dewberry is currently pursuing a degree from North Georgia Technical College and has attended Toccoa Falls Bible College. His departmental training consists of: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Deputy Warden of Security Training, Management 1, 2, & 3, and the Professional Management Program (PMP).
