Robert Toole Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Robert Toole to Deputy Director of Facilities Operations, effective January 1, 2018. As the Deputy Director, Toole will assist the Director of Facilities Operations in the oversight of daily operations of state facilities to include an emphasis on close security prisons.
“Robert has worked his way up through the ranks and has transitioned well into each position he has held,” said Commissioner Dozier. “His experience and knowledge will serve him well in his new position.”
Toole began his career with the Department in 1996 as a Correctional Officer at Smith State Prison. In 2000, he transferred to Telfair State Prison and served in the roles of Counselor, Counselor 2, and Chief Counselor. He was promoted to Unit Manager, in 2006, and Superintendent, in 2008, at Milan State Prison. In 2010, Toole was selected to serve as the Deputy Director of Audits and Compliance. Later in 2010, he was promoted to Warden at Wilcox State Prison. He transferred to Ware State Prison in 2012 and to Georgia State Prison in 2013 to serve as Warden. In 2015, Toole was promoted to Regional Director of the Southeast Region, where he currently serves.
Toole has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. His departmental training consists of: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT, Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Pre-Command, and Command College.
