Inmate Death Being Investigated as Apparent Suicide

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating the death of an inmate at the Valdosta State Prison in Valdosta, Ga.
On December 4 at 1:40 p.m., Correctional Officers found inmate Caleb Mitchell (GDC #1001330552) unresponsive in his cell. Inmate Mitchell was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital after staff attempted to provide life saving measures to revive him. On December 6 at 9:15 a.m., he was pronounced deceased by a hospital physician. GDC is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure.
Mitchell was sentenced with Robbery by Intimidation in 2015, in Union County. Further information and photographs can be found on the GDC website at https://gdc.georgia.gov.
