Burruss CTC Hosts Graduation Ceremony

FORSYTH, Ga. – On November 17, 34 offenders received their General Education Diploma (GED) at Burruss Correctional Training Center (CTC) in Forsyth, GA. There were 12 juvenile offenders, three offenders from the Probation Boot Camp and 20 general population offenders.

“Education is a key step in the success of our reentering citizens,” said Commissioner Bryson. “With their GED, these 34 offenders now have the opportunity to further their education, through vocational and post-secondary programs.”

The GED program at Burruss CTC delivers educational services catered to the needs of offenders who did not complete their high school education. Students must pass tests in four basic subject areas to acquire their GED: Mathematics, Reasoning through Language Arts Part 1 and Part 2, Science and Social Studies. The GED tests are administered by Central Georgia Technical College in Macon, GA.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
