Darren Jackson Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Darren Jackson to Deputy Warden of Security at Valdosta State Prison (SP), effective October 1, 2017. In conjunction with an additional Deputy Warden of Security, Jackson will be responsible for supervising and managing all security staff and handling the overall management and operations of the facility housing over 1,070 close-security male offenders.

“With 23 years of experience in security operations, Darren is an invaluable asset to the GDC,” said Commissioner Dozier. ““I am confident in his ability to effectively manage both staff and offenders at Valdosta State Prison.”

Jackson began his career with GDC in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta SP. During his tenure at Valdosta, he served as Correctional Officer, Tactical Squad Commander, Sergeant, and Public Safety Training Instructor I.  In 2014, he was promoted to Special Operations Trainer 3 with the Georgia Training Academy. Later that year he joined the Special Operations Unit as a Special Operations Coordinator for the Southwest Region, where he currently serves.

Jackson is currently pursuing his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice through Thomas University. He is a veteran of the United States Army, serving eight years as a Sergeant. Darren has attended Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), POST Instructor Training, Firearms Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and several other GDC Special Operations training courses. 

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
