Inmate Death Under Investigation

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections is investigating the death of an inmate at Valdosta State Prison. At approximately 9:35pm on Monday, August 14, inmate Anthony Hann was found unresponsive in his cell. Medical personnel and Officers responded and inmate Hann was taken to medical. Local EMS was notified and arrived at approximately 9:57pm and assisted. Inmate Hann was pronounced dead by local EMS responders at approximately 10:01pm.
The cause of death is undetermined pending investigation and autopsy results.
Inmate Hann was 29 years old and convicted of robbery in Clayton County. His was serving a 20-year sentence.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
