Graduation held at Walker State Prison

FORSYTH, Ga. – On June 9, 42 offenders graduated from the Welding Program at Walker State Prison in Rock Springs, GA. There were 32 offenders who completed the Basic Vocational Welding Program and 10 who completed the Advanced Vocational Welding Program.

“Several former offenders who participated in the agency’s vocational welding programs are now gainfully employed,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “We are proud of the 42 graduates and hope for the same level of success when they reenter society.”

Walker partners with Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) for both welding programs. The Basic Vocational Welding Program offers an MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Certificate. Since its inception in 2014, a total of 207 offenders have graduated from the basic program. In the Advanced Vocational Welding Program, offenders earn a TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and Flux Cord certificate. This was the inaugural advanced program graduation.
