Emanuel Women’s Facility Hosts Graduation Ceremony
FORSYTH, Ga. – On December 16, 13 offenders received their General Education Diploma (GED) at Emanuel Women’s Facility (WF) in Swainsboro, GA.
“A GED is an important first step in the agency’s mission of reducing recidivism through effective programming and education,” said Commissioner Dozier. “Once an offender receives a GED, they can continue to build on their education with vocational and post-secondary programming.”
The GED tests are administered at Emanuel WF on a monthly basis by Southeastern Technical College. Students must pass tests in four basic subject areas to acquire their GED: Mathematics, Reasoning through Language Arts Part 1 and Part 2, Science and Social Studies.
As of July 1, 2016, 34 offenders at Emanuel WF have earned a GED, and a total of 1,059 offenders have earned a GED statewide.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
