Aaron Pineiro Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Aaron Pineiro to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Georgia State Prison (SP) effective November 15, 2016. Pineiro will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 1,300 special mission male inmates.

“Aaron has shown a great passion for counseling in his nine years with the Department,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “As he takes on his new role of Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, his enthusiasm and experience will be of great benefit to Georgia State Prison.”

Pineiro started his career with the Department in 2007 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta SP.  In 2008, he transferred to South West Probation Detention Center (SW PDC) as the ID and Intake Officer.  Upon the closing of the SW PDC, Pineiro returned to Valdosta SP as a Counselor. In 2015, he was promoted to Chief Counselor at Valdosta SP, where he currently serves.

Pineiro earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University. Pineiro has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), and Basic Counselor Training. 

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
