Georgia Department of Corrections Names New Director of the Office of Information Technology

Tom McMurry Appointed
Forsyth —Assistant Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the appointment of Tom McMurry as the Department's new Chief Information Officer (CIO) effective October 16, 2014. McMurry will succeed Mike Nelson-Palmer, who retired earlier in the year. As Director of the Office of Information Technology, McMurry will oversee all activities related to systems development and implementation for the agency.
Tom's extensive knowledge and experience in Information Technology will truly be an asset to this agency, said Assistant Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. We are excited for him to join our team and look forward to what the future holds for the agency in the field of Information Technology under his leadership.
McMurry previously served as Chief Information Officer for the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), where he was responsible for systems planning and effectiveness, the alignment of information technology with the agency strategic plan, and the establishment of department standards for hardware and application systems development. Prior to serving at DDS, McMurry was the Vice President (VP) of Information Technology (IT) at the Lane Company where he managed all IT operations and application development. McMurry has also held senior IT leadership positions as VP of Client Services, Data Processing, and Network and Server Operations for Silverton Bank in Atlanta. He also served as the Regional Manager of Network and Server Operations for Arthur Andersen LLP for 17 years. McMurry earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Georgia State University.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
