Kevin Sprayberry Reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the reassignment of Kevin Sprayberry to Warden at Hays State Prison, effective July 1, 2016. As Warden, Sprayberry will be responsible for overseeing 285 staff members and 1,100 close security male offenders.

“We are glad that Kevin will be returning to Hays State Prison, where he started his career over 20 years ago,” said Commissioner Bryson. “He will truly be a benefit to the staff and inmates as he assumes his new role as Warden.”

Sparyberry joined the Department in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Hays State Prison. During his tenure at Hays, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2000, and promoted to Lieutenant in 2006. In 2012, Sprayberry was promoted to Chief of Security at Walker State Prison. He returned to Hays State Prison, in 2013, as the Unit Manager. In 2014, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Smith State Prison. Sprayberry was promoted, in 2016, to Warden at Calhoun State Prison, where he most recently served.

Sprayberry is a United State Air Force Veteran. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from California Coast University. He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), and Advanced Management Training (AMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), and Warden’s Pre-Command.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
