Georgia Escapee Captured after 37 years

U.S. Marshals and GDC Fugitive Apprehension Unit joint effort
FORSYTH, GA. – On June 15, at 8 p.m., the U.S. Marshals arrested Billy Burchfield in London, Kentucky, after the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Fugitive Apprehension Unit located him living under an alias. Burchfield escaped from the Jackson County Correctional Institution on October 22, 1979. He was serving a 16-year sentence for Voluntary Manslaughter after being convicted in Whitfield County in 1973.
