Graduates return to society

FORSYTH, Ga. - On April 7, West Central Integrated Treatment Facility honored seven graduates who completed the integrated therapeutic program.

“This facility offers a special form of therapy by addressing both mental health and substance issues simultaneously,” said Commissioner Bryson. “I am proud of the progress they have made and look forward to the continued success of this program.”

All participants of the program have a dual diagnosis consisting of both mental health and substance abuse issues. The nine-month, three-phase program provides treatment in the form of daily core groups, individual counseling, participation in self-discovery groups and progression. Once the participants complete the program, they are able to leave the residential therapeutic community and return to society.

This year, 45 women total have graduated from this program.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
