104 offenders enrolled

FORSYTH, GA – On March 1, Washington State Prison implemented the Faith & Character Based program at the facility located in Davisboro, Ga. A total of 104 offenders are enrolled.

“Offenders who complete this program are 10 times less likely to return to prison,” said Commissioner Bryson. “The expansion of this program to include Washington State Prison is another indication that we are heading in the right direction to ensure a successful reentry of our returning citizens.”

The Faith and Character Based program, implemented in 2004, enhances public safety through community partnerships in support of an offender’s successful transition from custody to the community. The program at Washington State Prison is a four phase, 12-month program, which will assist offenders in the change of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
