Angela L. Williams Appointed

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Angela Williams to Assistant Superintendent at Women’s Probation Detention Center, effective February 1, 2016. As Assistant Superintendent, she will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility and will represent the facility in the absence of the Superintendent.

“Angela brings 22 years of knowledge with her to Women’s Probation Detention Center,” said Commissioner Bryson. “I am confident that her experience will be beneficial to the staff.”He

Williams joined the Department in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Pulaski State Prison. In 2001, she was promoted to Sergeant at Augusta State Medical Prison. During her tenure with the GDC, she also served as Lieutenant and Chief of Security.  In 2014, she was promoted to Unit Manager at Coastal State Prison, where she most recently served.

Williams earned her Associate degree in Psychology and in Criminal Justice from Middle Georgia State College; a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Public Safety from Mercer University; and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Sexual Assault Response Training (SART), Security Threat Group (STG), and Sergeants Academy.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
