Lt. Danny Lucear Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Lt. Danny Lucear to Chief of Security at State Offices South at Tift College, GDC headquarters, effective December 1, 2015. As Chief of Security, Lucear will be responsible for the overall safety and security of the campus and supervising 23 officers in a variety of details.

“Danny has dedicated his career to the security and safety of staff and inmates since beginning his career with the Department in 1998,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We are excited to see him continue to excel in his new role as Chief of Security for GDC headquarters.”

Lucear began his career with the Department in 1998 as a Correctional Officer at Burruss Correctional Training Center (CTC). From 1999 to 2007, Lucear served as Detail Officer, Detail Supervisor, Field Training Officer, and Sergeant. He was later promoted and transferred to Campus Operations at State Offices South at Tift College, in 2011, to serve in the same capacity. In 2015, he was promoted to Lieutenant of Campus Operations, where he most recently served.

Lucear earned an Associates degree from Columbus State University. His departmental training includes, Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Sergeant’s Academy, and Professional Management Program. He served as a Specialist E-4 with the Georgia National Guard from 1986 to 1992, and served in Operation Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
