Calvin Orr Named New Superintendent at Patten PDC

Calvin Orr Promoted
FORSYTH, GA - Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Calvin Orr as Superintendent at Patten Probation Detention Center effective January 1, 2016. Formerly serving as Deputy Warden of Security at Valdosta State Prison, Orr will now be responsible for overseeing 50 staff members and 252 male offenders.
“Calvin’s 27 years of experience will be of great benefit when he assumes his new role as Superintendent,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We look forward to continuing to watch him excel in his new leadership role.”
Orr began his career with the Department in 1988 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta State Prison. During his time at Valdosta State Prison, he served as Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. Then in 2009, Orr was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at the same facility, where he currently serves.
Calvin has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Pre-Command College, Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), and Deputy Warden of Security training.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
