Forsyth – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Lee Clark as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Smith State Prison effective November 16, 2015. The facility is located in Helena and houses Close Security male offenders. Clark will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 1,800 male inmates.

“I am confident Lee’s experience and knowledge will serve him well at Smith State Prison,” said Commissioner Bryson.  “His experience has prepared him well for this new responsibility.”

Lee joined the Georgia Department of Corrections in 2001 as a Counselor at Montgomery State Prison. In 2003, he transferred to Georgia State Prison as a Counselor and later became a Correctional Officer. While at Georgia State Prison, he was promoted to Sergeant and was also a full time adjunct instructor.  In 2013, Lee was promoted to Chief Counselor at Emanuel Women’s Facility, where he currently serves.     

Lee received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Georgia Southern University and a Certificate of Criminal Justice from Columbus State University. He received his Master of Public Administration degree from Columbus State University and is a Georgia Law Enforcement Command College graduate.  His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, and the Professional Management Program. He is a POST Certified Instructor and Hostage Negotiator.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
