Commissioner Names New Assistant Commissioner of Administration & Finance

FORSYTH, GA. — Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Scott Poitevint as Assistant Commissioner of the newly created Administration and Finance Division effective July 1, 2015. As Assistant Commissioner, Poitevint will be responsible for overseeing all functions under the Administration unit to include Human Resources, Grants Management, Fleet Management, and the Call Center; as well as all functions under the Finance unit to include Budget Services, Business Management, Business Processes, Financial Services, Fiscal Audits, and Purchasing for the agency.
“Scott, naturally, came to mind when selecting an Assistant Commissioner for the newly created Administration and Finance Division,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “He is truly an invaluable asset to the department and the staff.”
Poitevint began his career with the Department in 1999 as a Manager in the Financial Services department within the Administration division. In 2003, he was promoted to Manager of the Business Support Services department. He was then promoted in 2004 to Deputy Division Director of the Administration division and in January 2015 he was promoted to Division Director of Administration . Prior to joining the Department, Poitevint began his state career at the Georgia Building Authority in 1988 as an Assistant Budget Officer. In 1989, he was promoted to Budget Officer and in 1991 he was promoted to Assistant Director of Administration before joining the Department.
Poitevint earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University. He has completed Corrections Leadership Institute, the Carl Vinson Institute-UGA State Financial Training, and the Executive Leadership Program.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
