New Budget Director Named

Peter Adams Appointed
FORSYTH, GA.— Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Peter Adams to Budget Director effective July 1, 2015. As Budget Director, Adams will be responsible for ensuring an adherence of established policies while monitoring purchasing and overseeing the use of the agency’s budget.
“Peter has years of experience working with finances,” said Commissioner Bryson. “Having his expert knowledge will be a great asset to the Department.”
Adams began his career with the State of Georgia at the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council as a Financial Auditor. Following that, he worked for the Department of Human Resources as a Budget Officer, and then transitioned to a position with the Board of Regents University System of Georgia. Most recently, Adams has served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Georgia Department of Public Safety, where he managed all financial units of the Comptroller’s office including accounting, revenue, payroll and budget.
Adams earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of West Georgia.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
