New Superintendent at West Central Integrated Treatment Facility Named

Mizell Davis Appointed

FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Mizell Davis to Superintendent of West Central Integrated Treatment Facility (ITF) effective July 1, 2015. As Superintendent, Davis will be responsible for the day to day operations of the facility and overseeing 70 staff members and 147 medium security female offenders.

“Mizell has served over 24 years with the Department in various roles,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “We know she brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership skills in her new role as Superintendent of West Central ITF.”

Davis began her career with the Department in 1991 as a Correctional Officer at the Atlanta Transitional Center. In 1994, Davis began working as a Counselor at Pulaski State Prison, and served in this capacity until 2008 when she was promoted to Chief Counselor at Central State Prison. In 2009, Davis was promoted to the Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Central State Prison, where she most recently served.

Davis earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Alabama State University. During her career with the Department, Davis has completed the following training courses; Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT); Basic Management Training (BMT), Correctional Leadership Institute (CLI), Deputy Warden’s Academy, and Warden and Chief’s Pre-Command.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,000 employees.
