Betsy Thomas Appointed

FORSYTH, Ga. — Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Betsy Thomas as Deputy Personnel Director of Corrections Human Resources Management effective June 1, 2015. As Deputy Personnel Director, Thomas will supervise 40 positions and is responsible for personnel program management and development statewide in areas of Workforce Analysis, Policy and Compliance, Employment Services and Personnel Operations.

“In her 21 years with the Department of Corrections, Betsy has excelled in every role she has held,” said Commissioner Bryson. “Her strong leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively will serve her and the agency well in her new position,” continued Bryson.

Thomas began her career with GDC in 1994 as a Probation Officer in the Dublin Judicial Circuit.  She worked her way through the ranks, and was promoted to Chief Probation Officer of the Oconee Judicial Circuit in 2010, followed in 2014 by a developmental assignment in Central Office, where she was responsible for the implementation and opening of 17 Day Reporting Center (DRC) Lite sites across the state.  Most recently, Thomas served as the Field Services Manager, having oversight of specialized training programs for Probation Operations, the Probation Reporting Contact Center and the Day Reporting Centers.

Thomas earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Mercer University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. She is a certified POST Instructor.

Thomas resides in Chauncey, Georgia with her husband and two daughters.
