Nicole Rzasa Promoted

FORSYTH, GA. — Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Nicole Rzasa to Chief Probation Officer of the Toombs Judicial Circuit, effective February 16, 2015. As Chief Probation Officer, Rzasa will be responsible for overseeing the operation of probation offices in Glascock, Lincoln, McDuffie, Taliaferro, Warren, and Wilkes counties.

“Nicole’s extensive training in many facets of probation operations will serve her well as she assumes this position,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson.  “We are excited to see her continue to succeed in her new role.”

Rzasa began her career with the Department of Corrections in 2002 as a Probation Officer in the Augusta Judicial Circuit, working in pre-sentence investigations before supervising offenders. She held Intensive and Specialized Supervision caseloads until her promotion to Probation Officer III in 2012. As a Probation Officer III, she supervised the Specialized Probation Supervision Unit, the Community Impact Program, the Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative, Mental Health Officers as well as Substance Abuse Aftercare Services. She was also a member of the Northeast Probation Tact Squad from 2009-2013.

Rzasa graduated from Augusta State University with a double major in Criminal Justice and Sociology and is currently enrolled in Columbus State University Law Enforcement Command College to begin her Master’s degree in September of 2015. Her departmental training includes Basic Probation/Parole Officer Training Course, POST Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Basic Management and Advanced Management training. She is a trainer for Mental Health First Aid as well as a trainer/coordinator for Crisis Intervention Training.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners
and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
