New Deputy Warden of Security named at Hays State Prison

Anthony Dewberry Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Anthony Dewberry as the Deputy Warden of Security at Hays State Prison effective November 1, 2014. As Deputy Warden, Dewberry will be responsible for overseeing 412 staff members and 1,189 male inmates at the close-security facility located in Trion, Ga.
“Anthony has shown great leadership as a Unit Manager,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “We know he will continue to demonstrate that same level of leadership in his new role as Deputy Warden of Security.”
Dewberry began his career with the Department in 1991 as a Correctional Officer at Metro State Prison (SP). In 1994, Dewberry was promoted to Sergeant at Metro SP, and in 1997 he was promoted to Lieutenant at Metro SP. In 2002, Dewberry was promoted to Chief of Security at Northwest Probation Detention Center. In January of 2006, Dewberry was promoted to Unit Manager of Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP), where he also served as the Acting Deputy Warden of Security from July 2006 through October 2006 when he resumed his role as Unit Manager of LASP, where he most recently served.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
