Jacob Beasley of Telfair State Prison Honored
FORSYTH - Ga. - The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Jacob Beasley as Facilities Supervisor of the Year at the Tenth Annual GDC Awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia.
"Jacob is an exceptional and influential leader," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We are indebted to his selfless devotion to the Department."
The Facilities Supervisor of the Year award is presented to a supervisor who exemplifies leadership by always supporting shift and facility missions. The honor is awarded to a supervisor who mentors new employees, volunteers for additional responsibilities and consistently promotes security and safety.
Unit Manager Beasley began his career with the Department in 2007, quickly advancing through the ranks as Sergeant in 2009, Lieutenant in 2012, and Unit Manager in May of this year. He has been integral in fostering change and creating a safer working environment within the unit. Unit Manager Beasley possesses the demeanor necessary to instill order, hold offenders accountable, and allow for smooth transition into general population. His exceptional professionalism and devotion to duty reflect an expert level of supervision and positive leadership.
Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with the Commissioner were Assistant Commissioner Timothy C. Ward, Board of Corrections Vice Chair Rose Williams, and special guest speakers Mercer University Athletic Director Jim Cole and Mercer University Men's Basketball Head Coach Bob Hoffman.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
