Sara Hilliard of Telfair State Prison Honored

FORSYTH - Ga. - The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Sara Hilliard as Customer Service Champion of the Year at the Tenth Annual GDC Awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia.

"Sara's positive attitude while carrying out our non-negotiable mission is something we as an agency should strive to possess," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "It is for her dedication and determination to help others that we honor her with the title of Customer Service Champion."

The Customer Service Champion Award is presented to an employee who actively develops a customer service culture, uses the One Team approach, and listens and honors commitments made to customers is recognized as a Customer Service Champion.

Hilliard is the Personnel Manager at Telfair State Prison, where she has worked for 23 of her 25 years with the Department. Personifying the faster, friendlier, easier mentality, Hilliard is immediate in her responses while keeping a pleasant demeanor. She is a true team player, handling functions at not only Telfair State Prison, but the McRae and Oconee Probation Offices as well.

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with the Commissioner were Assistant Commissioner Timothy C. Ward, Board of Corrections Vice Chair Rose Williams, and special guest speakers Mercer University Athletic Director Jim Cole and Mercer University Men's Basketball Head Coach Bob Hoffman.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
