Tommy Fountain Promoted

Forsyth Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Tommy Fountain to Transitional Center Coordinator effective November 1, 2013. As Coordinator, Fountain will be responsible for overseeing the business operations of 13 transitional centers throughout the state that houses 2,518 minimum security male and female inmates.

"Tommy has gone above and beyond during his time here with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "I am confident that he will excel in his new role as Transitional Center Coordinator."

Fountain began his career with the Department in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta State Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1996 and to Lieutenant in 1999. In 2007, he was promoted to Superintendent at the newly opened Valdosta Transitional Center. In 2011, Fountain was promoted to Central Office on a Development Assignment as Assistant Transitional Center Coordinator, where he most recently served. In addition to his years of experience in corrections, Fountain served eight years in the United States Army as Military Police Specialist.

Fountain received an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Military College. He has also completed the Professional Management Program and Correctional Leadership Institute.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
