New Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Named at Burruss CTC

Shante Farley Promoted
Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Shante Farley to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Burruss Correctional Training Center effective September 1, 2013. The facility is located in Forsyth, Georgia. Farley will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 800 inmates.
“Shante has demonstrated outstanding skills and professionalism,” said Commissioner Owens. “The staff and inmates will benefit from her experience and knowledge.”
Farley began her career with the Department in 2007 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta State Prison. In 2009, she was promoted to Counselor at Dooly State Prison and was later transferred to the Lamar Pre-Release Center. She was promoted in 2011 as the Chief Counselor at Central State Prison, where she most recently served.
Farley received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University. She has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, and is certified in various counseling programs. Farley has been accepted in the Command College Program at Columbus State University and is awaiting her start day to further her education.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
