Antoine Caldwell Appointed

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Antoine Caldwell as the Warden of Wilcox State Prison effective July 1, 2013. The facility is located in Abbeville, Georgia. As Warden, Caldwell will be responsible for overseeing 323 staff members and 1,862 medium security male inmates.

"Antoine is a dedicated employee with a vast wealth of knowledge," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We are confident his experience will benefit the staff and inmates at Wilcox State Prison."

Caldwell joined the Department in 1995 as a Correctional Officer at Dooly State Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2000 and to Lieutenant in 2001. In 2004, he was promoted to Chief of Security and later promoted to Deputy Warden of Security in 2005. Caldwell was selected to serve as the Deputy Director of Audits and Compliance Unit in Central Office in 2012. Caldwell has attended Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program, Corrections Leadership Institute and Warden's Pre-Command. He received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Business Administration/Public Administration from Thomas University.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
