New Warden Named at Ware State Prison

Ambrose native Glen Johnson Reassigned
Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Glen Johnson as the Warden of Ware State Prison effective July 1, 2013. The facility is located in Waycross, Georgia. As Warden, Johnson will be responsible for overseeing 401 staff members and 1,546 close security male inmates.
"Glen has gone above and beyond in his previous positions with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We look forward to his new role as Warden at Ware State Prison.
Johnson joined the Department in 1989 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta State Prison. Throughout his 24 year career, he has served as SIT Member, Sergeant, CERT Sergeant, Lieutenant, Tactical Squad Commander, Acting Chief of Security, Unit Manger and Deputy Warden of Security. In 2010, Johnson was appointed Warden at Hancock State. Johnson graduated from the University of Phoenix with a degree in Criminal Justice.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
