New Warden Named at Walker State Prison

D. Bruce Lee Reassigned

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Bruce Lee as Warden of Walker State Prison effective July 1, 2013. The facility is located in Rock Springs, Georgia. As Warden, Lee will be responsible for overseeing 151 staff members and 444 medium security male inmates.

"Bruce has 26 years of experience with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We look forward to his continued dedication in carrying out the Department's mission at Walker State Prison."

Lee began his career with the Department in 1987 as a Probation Officer in the Cobb Judicial Circuit. In 1992, he transferred to Phillips State Prison as a MH/MR Senior Counselor. In the following years, Lee served as the Mental Health Unit Manager at both Phillips and Hays State Prisons. In 2001, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Northwest Probation Detention Center (PDC). Lee returned to Phillips State Prison in 2002 where he served as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment. In 2006, he was promoted to Superintendent at Paulding PDC. He was promoted to Warden of Lee State Prison in 2012, where he most recently served. Lee received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Psychology from University of West Georgia. He attended Basic Probation Officer Training, Basic Correctional Officer Training, Management Development Training and Pre-Command.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
