Carl Humphrey Appointed

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Carl Humphrey as the Field Operations Manager for County Facilities effective July 1, 2013.

"Carl has had a long career with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We look forward to the leadership and experience Carl will bring in his new role."

Humphrey began his career with the Department in 1984 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia State Prison. From 1987-1999, he served as Canine Handler, Public Safety Training Instructor, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Warden. In 1999, Carl was promoted to Warden at Rutledge State Prison and also served as Warden at Burruss Correctional Training Center, Autry State Prison, Ware State Prison, Baldwin State Prison and Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison where he has served since December 2010. Humphrey has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, POST IT, Firearms Instructor, Basic Management Training, Correctional Leadership Institute, Professional Management Program, NIC Training for Wardens and Warden's Pre-Command.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
