Dennis McCranie Promoted

Forsyth Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Dennis McCranie to Deputy Warden of Security at Wilcox State Prison effective December 1, 2013. The medium security facility which houses 1,846 male offenders is located in Abbeville, Ga. As Deputy Warden, McCranie will be responsible for supervision and management of 187 security staff and the overall management of the security operations of the facility.

"McCranie has gone above and beyond during his 26 years of dedicated service with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "I am confident that he will excel in his new role."

McCranie began his career with the Department in 1987 as a Correctional Officer at Dodge State Prison, serving on the TACT squad for six years. He was promoted to Sergeant at Wilcox State Prison in 1993. In 1996, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Telfair State Prison. He was promoted to Captain at Wilcox State Prison in 2007 and was promoted to Unit Manager in 2012 at Wilcox SP, where he most recently served.

McCranie received an Associates Degree in Theology and Counseling from Beacon University. He has also attended Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Professional Management Program and Corrections Leadership Institute.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
