Contraband Arrests at Lee and Montgomery State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 877 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On October 30, Lee County Sherriff’s Department arrested Lee State Prison Officer Rashara Harris after she attempted to enter the facility with contraband. Officer Harris entered the facility for her shift when the Captain requested her consent for a strip search. Two bundles containing 379.8 grams of tobacco were discovered.
On October 24, an investigator conducted an interview with Food Service staff member Eric Mincey regarding a contraband cell phone confiscated from an inmate at Montgomery State Prison. During the interview, Mincey admitted to bringing the contraband cell phone to the inmate for the sum of $1,000. Mincey was taken into custody by Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and taken to Montgomery County Jail.
