Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,224 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On May 5, the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office conducted a vehicle stop near Rogers State Prison. During the stop, the sheriff’s office discovered 5 packages containing 3 cell phones, a roll of black electrical tape and 1,364 grams of tobacco. Civilian Michelle Artisaciyaa and probationer Allen Sanchez were arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 1 at Valdosta State Prison, security staff observed two individuals running towards the wood line near the facility. After apprehending the individuals, security staff discovered 2 black bags and a camouflage bag. Both individuals were transported by the Valdosta Police Department to Lowndes County Jail.
On May 1, the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office stopped and searched a vehicle near Dooly State Prison. During the search, the sheriff’s office discovered 6 bundles containing 34 cell phones, 33 chargers, 51 rolling papers, a suspected 3-5 pounds of tobacco, a gun and a silencer. Civilians Jonathan Henry, Julian Holloway and Michael Crocker were arrested by the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office.
