Contraband Arrests at Calhoun and Smith State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,257 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On July 22 at Calhoun State Prison, a vehicle entered the facilities parking lot where security staff observed a civilian exit the vehicle and throw two packages of contraband over the fence. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the packages contained 4 cell phones and an unknown amount of tobacco. Calhoun County Sheriff's Office arrived to assist with the arrest of civilian Early Evans, civilian Tabatha Evans and civilian Shacoreyia Watkins.  

On July 18 at Smith State Prison, Officer Jarvis Stallworth entered the control room in a building carrying a drink can and immediately proceeded to the restroom. Upon exiting the restroom, he threw the can in the trash. The control room officer noticed the odor of marijuana. The can was recovered, and a hidden compartment was found inside with a small amount of suspected marijuana. After consenting to a search of his person and vehicle the following was found: A small amount of marijuana, and a weapon. Officer Stallworth was arrested by GDC Office of Professional Standards and was transported to jail by the Tattnall County Sheriff's Office.
