Contraband Arrest at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1310 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On October 27 at Wilcox State Prison, canine handlers arrested a civilian near the facility’s perimeter. Civilian Mortavious Colbert had a back pack containing several bundles of unidentified contraband. He was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.
On October 25 at Wilcox State Prison, Officer Angela Fultz was arrested after security staff found a suspicious object on her person. Officer Fultz consented to a search where they located a bundle wrapped in clear plastic containing tobacco. She was arrested by Abbeville Police Department.
On October 24 at Ware State Prison, security staff discovered a backpack with contraband that consisted of 1,275 grams of tobacco, 8 packs of rolling papers, 4 lighters, 27 grams of methamphetamine, 1 used roll of duct tape, 4 wave caps, 24 cellphones, 1 flip phone, and 2 footballs. Four civilians were arrested by Ware County Sheriff’s Department.
On October 23 at Autry State Prison, two unidentified males were arrested by Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office near the facility. Officers found several bundles wrapped in black tape.
On October 22 at Georgia State Prison, canine Handlers discovered contraband that had been dropped at the facility. 10 small bundles wrapped in black tape consisting of 275 grams of tobacco, 50 small bundles wrapped in plastic consisting of 1,230 grams of tobacco, 30 grams of marijuana, 2 rolls of black tape and 1 black sock containing 1,535 grams of tobacco. Civilians Jamarco Anderson and Regina Albin were arrested by Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
