New Warden of Long State Prison

Jose Morales Reassigned
Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Jose Morales as Warden of Long State Prison effective October 16, 2013. The facility is located in Ludowici, Georgia. As Warden, Morales will be responsible for overseeing 59 staff members and 232 minimum and medium security male inmates.
"Jose has a vast wealth of knowledge that will serve him well in his new position as Warden of Long State Prison," said Commissioner Owens. "I am confident that his leadership capabilities will be an asset to the facility."
Morales joined the Department in 1999 as a Correctional Officer and Transfer Sergeant at Rutledge State Prison. In 2001, he was promoted to Public Safety Training Instructor I at Macon State Prison. He was then transferred in 2004 to the South West Georgia Corrections Academy at Lee State Prison where he served as Training Major. He was promoted in 2006 to Assistant Superintendent at Western Pre-Release Center. He was transferred to Calhoun State Prison in 2007 and served as Deputy Warden of Security. In 2010, he was promoted to Warden at Johnson State Prison and was reassigned in July 2013 as Warden of Calhoun State Prison where he most recently served. Morales is a retired veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne Infantry with more than 23 years of honorable service. He holds a Criminal Justice Certificate from Columbus State University.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
