New Deputy Personnel Director Named

Angela Williams Appointed
Forsyth - Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Angela Williams as Deputy Personnel Director of Corrections Human Resources Management effective October 1, 2013. As Deputy Personnel Director, Williams will supervise 40 positions and is responsible for personnel program management and development statewide in areas of Workforce Analysis, Policy and Compliance, Employment Services and Personnel Operations.
"Angela has continued to excel throughout her 13 years of dedicated service to the Department," said Commissioner Owens. "I am confident that her wealth of knowledge will be an asset to the Corrections Human Resources Management team."
Williams began her career with the Department in 2000 at Calhoun State Prison as a Counselor. From 2001 to 2008, she served as Probation Officer I, II and III. In 2008, she was promoted to Program Development Consultant of the Sex Offender Administration Unit. Williams transferred to Autry State Prison in 2009 and served as the Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment. In 2012, she was promoted to Warden of Burruss Correctional Training Center where she most recently served.
Williams earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Albany State University and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. She has completed Basic Probation Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Pre-Command, POST IT Training and Corrections Leadership Institute.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
