New Warden Named at Calhoun State Prison

Phil Hall Promoted
Forsyth —Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Phil Hall as the Warden of Calhoun State Prison effective October 1, 2013. The facility is located in Morgan, Georgia. As Warden, Hall will be responsible for overseeing 254 staff members and 1,663 medium security male inmates.
“Phil has dedicated 28 years of faithful service to the Department,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “He will bring a wealth of knowledge that will greatly benefit the staff and inmates at Calhoun State Prison.”
Hall began his career with the Department in 1985 as a Correctional Officer at Dodge State Prison. In 1993, he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Wilcox State Prison in 1995 where he served as Lieutenant. In 2006, Hall was promoted to Captain and to Unit Manager in 2007. In 2012, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security of Wilcox State Prison where he most recently served.
Hall holds an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University. He has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program (PMP), Law Enforcement PMP, Advanced Management Training, Pre-Command and Corrections Leadership Institute.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
