New Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment Named

Benjie Nobles Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Benjie Nobles to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Autry State Prison effective August 15, 2013. Nobles will be responsible for supervising all areas of inmate activities to include education, counseling, chaplaincy, programs, medical, recreation, inmate records and visitation at the medium security facility housing 1,703 male inmates located in Pelham.

"Benjie has over 10 years of service with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "The experience and knowledge he has obtained throughout the years will serve him well in his new role."

Nobles began his career with the Department in 2002 as a Counselor at Autry State Prison. He was later promoted to Chief Counselor in 2006. He became a Behavior Specialist/General Population Counselor, in 2010, at the Bainbridge Probation Substance Abuse Treatment Center. He was promoted in 2012 to Chief Counselor at Lee State Prison, where he most recently served. Nobles served on the Counseling Revamp, Performance Incentive Credit and In-House Transition Center Process Action Teams for the agency.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Albany State College. He also has a Certificate in Addictions Counseling. He has completed Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training and Corrections Leadership Institute.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
