New Superintendent Named at Macon Transitional Center

Timothy B. Jones Promoted

FORSYTH - Ga. - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Timothy B. Jones as Superintendent of Macon Transitional Center effective July 16, 2014. The facility is located in Macon, Georgia. As Superintendent, Jones will be responsible for overseeing 55 staff members and 157 minimum security male offenders.

"Timothy is a dedicated employee who has excelled through the ranks during his career with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "His 23 years of experience will be beneficial to the staff and offenders at the Macon Transitional Center."

Jones began his career with the Department in 1991 as a Recreation Supervisor at Men's State Prison. In 1993, Jones was promoted to Activity Therapist at Men's State Prison. In 1995, he was promoted to Counselor at West Central State Prison. In 1999, Jones was promoted to Senior Counselor at River's State Prison. In 2001, Jones was promoted to Chief Counselor at Men's State Prison. In 2003, Jones was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care ∓ Treatment at Men's State Prison until it's closure in 2009 when Jones was then reassigned to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Johnson State Prison, where he most recently served.

Jones earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Georgia Southwestern State University. During his career with the Department he has completed the following training; Basic CID; Basic Management Training; Deputy Warden's Mandate; Mental Health Training; National Trans-Reentry Initiative, Special Education Training, Cognitive Leadership Training, Correctional Leadership Institute Training, Sex Offender Management Training, Pre-Command College, GPAI Annual Training and Advanced Management Training. In addition to his extensive training history, Jones earned the GDC Facilities Supervisor of the Year Award in 2010.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
