New Warden Named at Pulaski State Prison

FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Angela Grant as Warden of Pulaski State Prison effective July 1, 2014. The facility is located in Hawkinsville, Georgia. Formally Warden of Emanuel Women’s Facility, Grant will now be responsible for overseeing 283 staff members and 1,205 medium security female inmates at Pulaski State Prison.

“Angela’s many years of experience in her field have served the Department immensely,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “She is truly an asset to the Department and we look forward to her continued leadership at Pulaski State Prison.”

Grant began her career with the Department of Corrections in 1998 as a Correctional Officer at Burruss Correctional Training Center.  In 2000, she transferred to Pulaski State Prison to serve as a Correctional Officer II.  In 2001, Grant was promoted to General Population Counselor at Pulaski State Prison. She transferred to Phillips State Prison in 2002 and served as a Mental Health Counselor. In 2003, Granted transferred to Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison and continued her duties as a Mental Health Counselor. In 2004, she was promoted to Mental Health Unit Manager at Coastal State Prison and in 2006 Grant was promoted to PREA Coordinator in Central Office. In 2009, Grant transferred back to Pulaski State Prison to serve as Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment. Grant was promoted in 2012 to Warden of Emanuel Women’s Facility, where she most recently served.

Grant earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fort Valley State University. She is a Probation Officer Safety Training Certified Instructor and is a Licensed Professional Counselor.  Grant is also a member of the American Correctional Association, The National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
