William 'Clay' Nix Appointed

FORSYTH, Ga - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Clay Nix to newly created position of Inspector for the Office of Investigation and Compliance effective August 1, 2013. As Inspector, Nix will supervise both the Criminal Investigations Unit (Internal Affairs) and Administrative Investigations Unit (Inmate Affairs).

"Clay has a wealth of knowledge that will be of great benefit for both these units within OIC," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "I am confident that his experience will serve him well in his new role."

Nix began his career in law enforcement with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in 1989, where he served as Jailer and Radio Operator. He was hired by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 1993 as a Narcotics Agent. Later he was promoted to Special Agent in 1996 and was assigned to the Milledgeville and Atlanta Regional Field Offices, and State Health Care Fraud Control Unit. He moved in 2005 to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office, where he served as Deputy Chief Investigator in charge of Public Integrity and White Collar Crime Units from 2008-2013. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Justice Administration and Master of Arts in Public Administration from Columbus State University and is married with three children.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
