New Warden Named at Lee State Prison

Artis Singleton Appointed
Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Artis Singleton as the Warden of Lee State Prison effective July 1, 2013. The facility is located in Leesburg, Georgia. As Warden, Singleton will be responsible for overseeing 175 staff members and 762 medium security male inmates.
"Singleton is a valuable asset to the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "His 20 years of experience will serve him well in his new position as Warden."
Singleton began his career with the Department in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta State Prison. He was promoted to
Sergeant in 1999 and to Counselor in 2000 at Valdosta State Prison. In 2007, he transferred to Ware State Prison where he served as Chief Counselor. In 2009, he became the Chief Counselor at Valdosta State Prison. In 2012, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Autry State Prison.
Singleton holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University and a Computerized Accounting Certificate from Valdosta Technical College. He attended Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Correctional Leadership Institute and Wardens Pre-Command.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
