Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,343 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On December 22 at Ware State Prison, Officer Nadeah Culberson attempted to enter the facility when the body scanner revealed 178 grams of tobacco on her person. Officer Culberson was arrested by Ware County Sheriff’s Office.
On December 17 at Calhoun State Prison, Food Service Supervisor Bratanya Reed attempted to enter the facility when a strong odor of marijuana was detected. Supervisor Reed consented to a search of her person, which resulted in the recovery of one bundle which contained approximately 2 ounces of marijuana. Supervisor Reed was arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.
On December 14 at the Special Management Unit, security staff observed visitor Jakeria Turnipseed passing contraband to an offender. Visitor Turnipseed was arrested by Butts County Sheriffs Office and was transported to Butts County Jail.
