Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,298 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On September 29 at Washington State Prison, while processing visitor Brandi Wicker inside the institution for visitation, security staff detected a suspicious odor on her person.  Upon being questioned, visitor Wicker turned over 4 bundles of contraband wrapped. After consenting to a search of her person, 6 bundles of contraband were discovered. Visitor Wicker was arrested by Washington County Sheriff's Office.

On September 26 at Hancock State Prison, civilian Stephanie Rodriguez and an unidentified civilian were arrested by Hancock County Sheriff's Deputies. A traffic stop was conducted near the facility, where 2 packages were discovered wrapped in pieces of carpet inside of the vehicle.

On September 24 at Smith State Prison, the Glennville Police Department conducted a vehicle stop near the facility. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle and inside a back pack was an unknown amount of bottles wrapped in electrical tape. Dominique Stephens was and Danny Lonon were arrested by the Glennville Police Department.

On September 23 at Montgomery State Prison, civilian Tiffany Hayes was arrested by Montgomery County Sheriff's Office after contraband was detected in her vehicle during a traffic stop adjacent to the facility. The contraband consisted of 1 jar of Vaseline, 1 pack of rolling papers, 6 cigarette lighters, 2 rolls of black tape, several sandwich bags, and 3.9 ounces of tobacco.
