Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,374 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On October 24 at Calhoun State Prison, two individuals were spotted on facility grounds. Civilians Jacorey Jeffery and Tavares McCormick were found with the following contraband: methamphetamine, marijuana, tobacco, cellphones, gold chains, gold charms, a gold ring, lighters, saw blade, phone chargers, and shoes. Civilian Jeffery and McCormick were arrested and taken to Calhoun County Jail.

On October 24 at Wilcox State Prison, an unidentified suspect was spotted in the wood line of the facility who was later identified as Civilan K'Brea Thomas. After attempting to drive away from the scene Civilian Thomas was arrested.  A search of the area was conducted, and a juvenile was located who admitted to attempting to get contraband to an offender. The juvenile was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

On October 22 at Smith State Prison, a suspicious person was observed behind the facility, leaving the area. The Glennville Police Department made a traffic stop and located containers wrapped in black electrical tape in the vehicle of Civilians Devontae Gibbons and Stanley Brown Jr.  Gibbons and Brown were arrested and transported to the Tattnall County Jail.
