Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,371 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On October 18 at Wilcox State Prison,  Abbeville Police Department advised that two civilians were arrested after they were discovered walking on the railroad tracks near the facility with contraband. The contraband consisted of marijuana, tobacco, cell phones, cell phone chargers, a paintbrush, a tube of liquid nails, a can of white paint, and rolls of sheetrock tape.

On October 18 at Calhoun State Prison, Calhoun County Sheriff's Office conducted a vehicle stop in front of the facility.  During a search of the vehicle, the following contraband was discovered a drone, cellular phones, marijuana, tobacco, ecstasy pills, cash, guns, and ammo.  Milon Moore, Dewayne Stanley, and an unidentified suspect were placed under arrest by Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

On October 12 at Hancock State Prison, an officer observed an unidentified person lying on the ground near the fire station. Hancock County Sheriff's Office and the canine unit were called for assistance, but the unidentified civilian fled.  A vehicle was stopped near the facility, and a search was conducted on the vehicle, which resulted in marijuana being found.  After searching the area where the unidentified person was lying, two bookbags were discovered.  Civilian Brian Weston was arrested and transported to Hancock County Jail.
