FORSYTH, Ga. – The execution of condemned murderer Brandon Astor Jones scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson was carried out on February 3, at 12:46 a.m. in accordance with state law. Jones accepted a final prayer and recorded a final statement.

Jones was sentenced to death in 1979 for the robbery and murder of Roger Tackett in Cobb County.

There have been 60 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Jones was the 38th inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are presently 75 men on death row in Georgia.
